This first picture shows adding ground cover. You can see there is little material to add as it is very hot (77-95) and dry just now, not much growing. Foundations for Farming teaches planting a cover crop to use as mulch and this was not done for this planting season. However, we do hope farmers will begin to plant a ground cover (ex: cowpeas) at the end of the year, harvest, then leave the plant material for the Feb/March planting season. Plots are being prepared to plant corn.
Very precise holes have been prepared. Farming is a challenge in Tanzania. It is our hope and prayer that new methods and techniques can improve yields and feed families!
Evangelist Elias Mgewa and his family have committed part of their 5 acres to the Foundations for Farming method. They want to see for themselves how this will work.
Daughter Ester is planting 3 seeds the same depth, in a line in each hole. Later plants will be thinned to 2 plants per hole to give a good yield.
In the village of Lukangazi Robert is sharing this new method of planting with an elementary school teacher and a government extension agent.
Please prayerfully consider partnering with us! Thank you, together in Christ.
