One of the ways to strengthen the village churches in Tanzania is to provide opportunities for lay people to receive theological training. Our leader, Bishop Jacob Mameo, is promoting ETE (Ecumenical Theological Education). This training enables lay people to develop sound beliefs and gives them the tools to disciple others. Currently there are 22 village lay people taking this well-designed course to receive certification as lay leaders in their local congregations.
The course involves 6 different textbooks and tests are given after completing each book. After receiving a passing score the student moves on to the next book.
In addition to classroom study, the students practice preaching and teaching in neighboring villages as part of the training. (ETE student with pastors after preaching for Sunday service.)
Students are very enthusiastic about ETE and walk or ride a bicycle long distances to attend the Saturday classes.
The African continent is experiencing the fastest growth of Christianity on earth. Pray with us for the continuation and success of this wonderful Bible study and Christian education program.
